From One Bar to a National Movement: The Sports Bra Is Expanding

By Jenny Nguyen, Founder & CEO of The Sports Bra

When I first opened The Sports Bra in Portland in April 2022, I never imagined the ripple effect it would have. I just wanted to create a place where women’s sports weren’t an afterthought—where they were the main event. A space where people could gather, cheer, and feel seen.

Fast forward three years, and what started as a tiny 40-seat bar in Northeast Portland is now growing into something much bigger.

I’m beyond proud to announce that The Sports Bra is expanding into four incredible cities: Boston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, and St. Louis.

These aren’t just dots (or bras) on a map to us. These are cities with rich sports cultures and serious women’s sports legacies—home to teams like the Indiana Fever (WNBA), Las Vegas Aces (WNBA), Boston Fleet (PWHL) and the new Boston Legacy FC (NWSL). We’re honored to plant roots in places where fandom runs deep and the demand for women’s sports is undeniable.

This expansion isn’t just about opening more bars. It’s about building a movement. It’s about showing up for women athletes, fans, coaches, and community members who’ve been underserved and overlooked in the past. It’s about turning up the volume on visibility and representation.

Each new location will carry the same heart and mission as our original one in Portland—uplifting women-owned businesses, serving delicious food, and creating a welcoming space for everyone who wants to belong to a community and be part of the movement.

So yes, we’re growing. But we’re also staying true to what made The Sports Bra special in the first place: community, equity, joy, and the celebration of women’s sports and women athletes.

To everyone who believed in this vision from day one—thank you. To those just discovering us—welcome.

Game on!
