What’s the Status of The Sports Bra Franchise Rollout? Here's the Latest.

Q&A with Lindsey Schalock, Director of Franchise Development

It’s no secret people are excited about The Sports Bra opening in new places. So we asked Lindsey Schalock to walk us through what’s happening behind the scenes—and what you should know if you’re thinking about joining the movement.

“How many people have reached out so far?”

Lindsey: It’s been amazing—we’ve talked to around 250 people since the announcement last fall, from almost every state we’re registered in

“How many new locations are opening this year?”

Lindsey: We’ve just announced our first four franchise cities, and we have a few more in the pipeline right now. We would rather be slow and intentional to make sure we get everything right, from the franchise owners to the build-out to the vibe. The opening dates of these first four will depend on things like finding the right location and the build-out time required.

“Why does the process take so long?”

Lindsey: The truth is, this is a big commitment—for both sides. A Sports Bra franchise is a 10-year agreement, and we want it to be a fantastic match for everyone involved. We also take our mission seriously. We want to be sure it is a good cultural fit.

“Can The Sports Bra locations show men’s sports too?”

Lindsey: This question comes up a lot. The Sports Bra is exclusively dedicated to women athletes. That’s our entire reason for being. We believe that centering historically marginalized and excluded athletes is powerful—and there are plenty of other places showing men’s sports.

“Is The Sports Bra family-friendly?”

Lindsey: Yes! The Portland location welcomes fans of all ages, because we know that everyone watches women’s sports. As local laws permit, we expect our franchised locations to welcome families, too. It’s about building community, not just filling seats.
